Nevada Pushing for Maglev Line from Las Vegas to Primm

Vying for federal dollars, the California-Nevada Super Speed Train Commission is hoping to build a $1.3b 40-mile line between Las Vegas and Primm on the Nevada-California border. The line is envisaged as the first portion of a 270-mile line from Las Vegas to Anaheim CA. Despite competition from two eastern proposals, one in Baltimore and another in Pittsburgh, the Nevada line has a good chance due to its significantly lower cost and fewer property conflicts.

The technology for the system would be provided by German Maglev company Transrapid, which implemented the world's first commercial maglev system in Shanghai which opened last year. Travel time between Las Vegas and Primm is expected to be 12 minutes. To travel the full distance to Anaheim would take about 90 minutes.
